The Long Road Home is a documentary following the lives of two sets of siblings, Diana Boylston, a New Orleans teacher, her sister Donna, dead at sixteen, and Diana’s teenaged student twins, Dwight and Dwan, known as “double trouble” in the Lafitte Housing Projects. Decades apart, divided by race, gender and sexual preference, the siblings are united by adversity and loss in a New Orleans bound to both by nature and neglect. This film chronicles a moment of crisis for Boylston and her students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Boylston finds her inner-city students bewildered strangers in rural Kennett, Missouri, where Dwan has been brutally assaulted in a nightclub. As the teacher attempts to rescue the twins, she comes face to face with her own losses and unresolved questions from the darkest corners of her own past. The Long Road Home is an inspirational personal journal of trials to transformation and triumph.
